13 and gave them to the center on semi-permanent loan. The puppet hero of the 1964 animated children's feature, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and his boss Santa have piloted their sleigh to Midtown's Center for Puppetry Arts.Īn anonymous donor bought them for $368,000 at auction Nov. If it doesn’t Santa’s gonna have some serious explaining to do.ATLANTA - The most famous reindeer of all has flown to Atlanta. All I can say is thank goodness for Amazon! I got on there Saturday morning and ordered the train and it should make it time for Christmas. However, the one thing I didn’t buy was you guessed it… the coveted Lego train. Now, that I think about it I will have Myles give one or two things to charity. So, I’ve decided to give some of the gifts to other little ones in the family. This time I bought stuff I saw on sale a coupla months ago and now I may have went way overboard. I took a new approach to Christmas shopping this year because I usually procrastinate and shop Christmas Eve. Meantime, the real Santa… that would be me…has been dragging her feet with this train. However, I did tell Myles that I would speak with Santa to make sure he gets that Lego train. Ok, not sure if it was the right thing to do, but seemed right at the moment and it did work. So plan B …distract him with cookies and hot chocolate and make a getaway from the Santa area quickly so we didn’t have to talk about this any longer. Smart kid! Also, terrible that this Santa thing encourages parents to lie. He didn’t seem satisfied with that answer. So I had to think fast and try to explain that Santa will go back to the North Pole and tell his elves to start working on getting him that Lego train. He was like hey where’s my Lego train! Again they don’t tell you this stuff in the mommy handbook. Then when we walked away Myles seemed a little annoyed. When Myles finally got up to Santa he seemed a little shy, but he sat on his knee and took a picture with him and Mrs. So we took Myles to see Santa at the zoo. Well Myles wants Santa to bring him a Lego commuter train. I think at 3-1/2 it finally registers that Santa will bring them stuff, so the jolly old fella may not be so bad after all. Myles has been watching some classic Christmas specials like “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and “Charlie Brown Christmas” so for whatever reason he is in the spirit and really wanted to see Santa. I wasn’t going to put Myles or myself through the drama. He cried and made an ugly face when the picture was snapped and I found myself out of $30 for all that. So I was a little apprehensive about having Myles see Santa after the horrible visit he had almost two years ago. My son wants to see it again and so do I. So, if you’re in Atlanta during the holidays try to checkout Rudolph I highly recommend it. Let’s just put it this way… Myles put his own original touches on his! Ours did not look as good as the one seen here…not even close. When it was over we went downstairs and had a chance to make our own paper Rudolph puppet. I can totally see why these performances sell out. Then the puppeteers introduced themselves to the audience and talked about their puppets. Same storyline… songs…Yukon Cornelius…everything! It’s just really well produced and the puppeteers did a phenomenal job bringing the show to life.Īt the end we all sang the famous song Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. The puppet show is identical to the TV show… even down to the little raccoons and bunnies that sing and dance in the background. Well recently I bought tickets for Myles and I to see the puppet show version at the Center For Puppetry Arts. Heck we decorated our tree while watching the DVD. It’s definitely one of our favorites and we look forward to it coming on every year. It’s an all time holiday classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
